Spark of the Nova

Hierophant

#20 most played skill on the Mirage ladder Built from 3.28 Mirage ladder data Generated 2026-04-20 Data via poe.ninja

Spark of the Nova Hierophant turns your mana pool into everything at once — your damage, your defensive layer, and the fuel for a nova ring of Spark projectiles that detonates on every cast. The bigger your mana pool gets, the bigger your damage, the bigger your effective health, the bigger the nova. You just stack mana and let the ascendancy do the rest.

Consider this if you want a caster that feels tankier than it has any right to be — the Hierophant routes incoming damage through mana before life, so a 10k mana pool effectively doubles as a 10k health buffer sitting in front of you. Not the right pick if you want simple resource management (mana-spent mechanics mean cost management is always live), or if chaos-heavy maps scare you — chaos is the one damage type that sidesteps the whole mana-shield design.

Is this build for me
Strengths
  • +Sanctuary of Thought + Divine Guidance + Archmage Support means every max-mana roll is both a damage buff and a defensive buff — double-dipping mana into offense and EHP
  • +Mind Over Matter + Divine Guidance layer 30% + 50% of damage through mana — effective HP far outstrips the life+ES pool alone
  • +Widowhail + Rearguard is a clever league-start trick — the bow transmits the quiver's 22% block + 13% spell block + projectile speed + armour rolls to a spellcaster, giving block on a class that normally has none
  • +52% of endgame builds run Militant Faith timeless jewel, adding devotion scaling that lifts damage and elemental res together
  • +Archmage scales cleanly from leaguestart (mana + Atziri's Foible) to pinnacle (Mageblood + Pledge of Hands + Healthy Mind Cobalt) without changing identity
Weaknesses
  • Chaos damage bypasses mana + ES — the build leans on chaos res rolls (Screams of the Desiccated at endgame, Foulborn Kikazaru at aspirational) to avoid being one-shot by chaos mechanics
  • Mana reservation is always tight — Archmage costs real mana per cast, and the Hierophant's aura stack competes for the pool. Memory Vault on aspirational helps but is a unique dependency
  • The Widowhail+Rearguard league-start shell is capped in scaling — once endgame unlocks the Pledge of Hands / Mageblood pivot the bow+quiver identity is discarded entirely
  • Surprisingly, Minion Instability keystone shows up on 45% of endgame and 47% of aspirational builds — meaning a significant chunk of the ladder is using phantasm/spectre kamikaze as a second damage source, which isn't obvious from the skill name

Leveling L1–68

What to work on next
  1. Act 1: run Freezing Pulse
Buy Freezing Pulse from Nessa after Hillock. Arcane Surge Support from Mercy Mission — keep it low level so it procs on 1–2 casts. Flame Dash from Nessa after Submerged Passage. Clarity goes on as soon as the int requirement is met — and unlike other Spark variants, you level Clarity aggressively because mana is your primary scaling stat. A Lifesprig wand (L2 req) is an excellent starter — +1 gem level and mana on use.
  2. Act 2: run Orb of Storms
Pick up Herald of Thunder from Yeena after the Great White Beast and add Orb of Storms alongside Freezing Pulse. Bandit reward: help Alira for mana regen, crit multi, and resists — a Hierophant build wants all three, and the mana regen specifically keeps casting sustainable under Archmage Support later. Start pathing toward the mana wheels near the Templar starting area and Cruel Preparation (life + ES) on the tree.
  3. Act 3 — L28 swap: run Spark
Run Normal Lab at the end of Act 3 and take Arcane Blessing — the aura effect bonus is a flat multiplier to Clarity, Herald of Thunder, and (later) Wrath. Transfiguration font gives you Spark of the Nova; swap it in. Archmage Support is unlocked now — slot it alongside Controlled Destruction Support + Lightning Penetration Support. From this point on every mana upgrade is also a damage upgrade. Pick up Assassin's Mark from Yeena for power charge generation. Add a CwDT + Steelskin setup — mandatory, the build is fragile before Divine Guidance.
  4. Act 4–5: run Spark of the Nova
Spell Echo Support is live as soon as the int requirement is met — it doubles cast rate. Do Lab 2 in Act 5 and take Sanctuary of Thought — this is the build's real damage scaling (mana as increased spell damage). Your damage jumps roughly in proportion to your max mana pool, so any mana roll on gear is now worth more than a flat damage roll. Grab Atziri's Foible if you can — cheap amulet, +mana and +regen.
  5. Act 6 — Wrath decision: run Spark of the Nova
Wrath from the Act 6 quest reward is optional on a Hierophant — reserving it shrinks the unreserved mana pool that Archmage Support feeds off. The trade-off is: Wrath gives a flat lightning damage add (big), but unreserved mana gives both Archmage Support damage AND Sanctuary of Thought spell damage. The right call during leveling is to TAKE Wrath — the raw damage clears packs faster and Divine Guidance isn't online yet so you don't yet need the full mana pool for EHP. Once you hit Divine Guidance in Lab 3, consider dropping Wrath. Add Inspiration Support for the mana cost reduction — Archmage Support + Spell Echo Support drains mana fast.
  6. Act 7–9: run Spark of the Nova
Do Lab 3 in Act 9 and take Divine Guidance — the build's EHP multiplier. 50% of your mana becomes energy shield and damage is taken from mana before life, which transforms your survivability overnight. Pick up tree notables: Mind Drinker, Deep Thoughts, Cruel Preparation, Arcane Focus, and big mana wheels. If you dropped Wrath after Divine Guidance, expect your DPS number on paper to look lower but your effective damage to hold up because of a much bigger unreserved mana pool feeding Archmage Support.

Buy Greater Volley from the trade board — 3.28 Mirage Exceptional Support that replaced GMP, signature 5th/6th link for nova patterns. Run Uber Lab at L68 for Ritual of Awakening — the arcane surge and totem synergy scale the late-game mana-stacker. From here it's a rare-crafting grind: 6-link chest with high life and mana, mana-heavy rare jewellery, and capping all three resists at 75% resist. The 3000 intelligence mana-stack ceiling is a long-term goal.

How leveling works

Spark of the Nova on a Hierophant is the classic Archmage Support variant: you stack the largest mana pool the game will let you build, feed Spark of the Nova through Archmage Support (which adds mana-per-cast as lightning damage), and let Sanctuary of Thought scale the spell damage with max mana on top. The nova pattern wants overlap, and Spark of the Nova + Archmage Support lean into stationary high-cost casting better than any other Spark of the Nova ascendancy — standing still in the ring is how you do damage anyway. The survivability layer is Divine Guidance: 50% of your mana is effectively energy shield, and damage is taken from mana before life, which turns your huge mana pool into the actual HP bar. It's the tankiest Spark of the Nova variant in the game.

Leveling with Spark of the Nova directly is NOT the plan — the transfigured gem is gated on Normal Labyrinth completion and the transfiguration font, putting it out of reach until ~L28. Level as a Freezing Pulse mana caster through Acts 1–2 (Nessa sells it, scales on any int stick, and cold-shatter is safe), then pivot to Orb of Storms + regular Spark in Act 2–3 to learn shock-stacking and bounce positioning. Ascendancy pick order is Arcane Blessing (Lab 1 — the aura effect bonus is live from day one and is a flat damage + defence multiplier), Sanctuary of Thought (Lab 2 — this is the build's real damage scaling, mana as increased spell damage), Divine Guidance (Lab 3 — the survivability layer that turns mana into effective HP), and Ritual of Awakening (Uber Lab — arcane surge + totem synergy for the endgame).

The swap at L28: run Normal Lab the moment you can (overlevel by 2–3 if needed — dying costs you the font pick), grab Spark of the Nova from the transfiguration font, and slot it with Archmage Support + Spell Echo Support + Controlled Destruction Support. Archmage Support adds mana as lightning damage to spells, so at this point your mana investment directly becomes damage. The L28 swap is the point where mana becomes more important than any other stat on your gear.

Auras are the other defining piece. Clarity goes on as soon as Nessa sells it — and unlike other Spark of the Nova variants, you scale Clarity to max level for this build, because every point of mana she grants is more damage via Archmage Support AND more EHP via Divine Guidance. Herald of Thunder enters in Act 2–3 and stacks with Spark of the Nova's lightning. Wrath from the Act 6 quest reward is still the biggest flat damage add in the leveling process but it costs mana reservation — on a Hierophant, unlike on an Inquisitor, Wrath is optional because Archmage Support is already scaling your damage through your unreserved mana. Many Hierophants skip Wrath entirely and keep a huge unreserved mana pool for Archmage. Your call: Wrath for raw DPS, no-Wrath for mana-EHP-tank playstyle.

Leveling uniques: Lifesprig as a starter wand, Foulborn Ghostwrithe (or Tabula) if you can find one, Goldrim for resist coverage, Wanderlust for move speed, and Atziri's Foible for mana scaling. A Rathpith Globe is specifically NOT wanted on this variant — that's the low-life Inquisitor's toy, not yours. Save currency for the endgame mana-stacking rares.

Gear while leveling
  • · Wand (main hand): through Acts 1–5 a Lifesprig is excellent (+1 gem level, mana on use). Endgame target is a rare wand with spell crit, flat lightning damage to spells, "+1 to Level of All Spell Skill Gems", and mana. Mana rolls on wand matter a lot here — Archmage Support + Sanctuary of Thought both scale off it.
  • · Shield (off hand): rare shield with LIFE + MANA + RESISTS + spell crit or spell damage. Mana is the highest-priority second affix after life because it's damage AND EHP.
  • · Body armour: 4-link hybrid ES/life chest with mana and resists through campaign. Foulborn Ghostwrithe is a specifically Hierophant-friendly chest (converts life to mana and ES) if you can find one cheap; otherwise a Tabula Rasa for the link count or a crafted rare with high life and mana.
  • · Helmet: Goldrim for resist coverage through Act 5, swap to rare life/mana helmet in Act 6+. Lab enchant "Spark deals increased damage" in Uber Lab is a massive spike when you can get it.
  • · Gloves: rare gloves with life, mana, and resists. Sadima's Touch or Lochtonial Caress as starter options are fine but rare gloves with 60+ life and 50+ mana outclass them in Act 3+.
  • · Boots: Wanderlust through Act 6 for move speed and freeze immunity, then rare boots with move speed + life + mana + resists.
  • · Rings: rare with life, mana, resists, and added lightning damage to spells where possible. Praxis is a great mana/regen ring for early acts. AVOID Storm Prison here — the power charge scaling is not this build's priority, mana is.
  • · Amulet: Atziri's Foible is mandatory through campaign — cheap, huge mana and regen. Swap to rare mana-stacker with spell crit multi, life, mana, and +X to intelligence in endgame.
  • · Belt: Cloth Belt (increased maximum mana implicit) with life, mana, and resists. No unique belts needed during leveling — endgame sometimes uses a crafted Stygian Vise for the abyssal jewel socket.
  • · Flasks: life flask with bleed removal, mana flask (essential on this build — the mana drain from Archmage Support is severe early on), quicksilver, and a diamond flask once crit is live. Divination Distillate is a standard endgame pickup for the +X% all res and mana.
Weapon progression

Through Acts 1–2 use a Lifesprig wand (L2 requirement, ~1 chaos in most leagues) — +1 gem level and mana on use is everything this build wants early. Stick with it until you're genuinely outscaled by a rare wand with flat lightning + "+1 to Level of All Spell Skill Gems".

The L28 swap is still a wand + shield — Spark of the Nova is a spell. Look for a wand with "+1 to Level of All Lightning Spell Skill Gems" as a transition upgrade (a ~5-chaos item in most leagues), and for off-hand prioritise rare shield with MANA + LIFE + RESISTS + spell crit. Mana on both hands is more important here than on any other Spark of the Nova variant.

The endgame target is a rare wand with spell crit, flat lightning damage to spells, "+1 to Level of All Lightning Spell Skill Gems", "+X to Maximum Mana", and "+X% to Critical Strike Multiplier" — red-maps purchase/craft, not campaign. Any 4-link wand with Archmage Support + Spell Echo Support + Lightning Penetration Support clears yellow maps fine once Sanctuary of Thought + Divine Guidance are online.

Tree to aim for (by level 90)
Mind Drinker Deep Thoughts Cruel Preparation Arcane Focus Prodigal Perfection
Watch out for
  • ! Spark of the Nova is a transfigured gem — it does NOT drop from Lilly Roth. You get it ONLY as a reward from the transfiguration font after completing Normal Labyrinth. If you die in Lab you lose the font pick for that run, so overlevel Lab by 2–3 before attempting it. You cannot buy the transfigured version afterward.
  • ! Arcane Blessing is the correct Lab 1 pick, NOT Sanctuary of Thought. Sanctuary of Thought is the bigger damage node but it only kicks in once you have a large mana pool to scale from — and at Act 3 you do not. Take Arcane Blessing first so Clarity + Herald of Thunder are immediately stronger, then take Sanctuary of Thought in Lab 2.
  • ! Mind over Matter is NOT needed on this build — Divine Guidance replaces it. Taking both is redundant (they overlap) and costs you tree points you'd rather spend on mana wheels. Divine Guidance + mana stacking is the whole defensive layer; don't double up.
  • ! Wrath is OPTIONAL on a Hierophant, unlike every other Spark of the Nova variant. Reserving Wrath shrinks the unreserved mana pool that Archmage Support and Sanctuary of Thought both scale off — so the damage it adds can be roughly offset by the damage you lose on mana scaling. The conservative call is: take Wrath through campaign, drop it after Lab 3 (Divine Guidance) if the EHP jump feels too risky without it, keep it if you like the feel.
  • ! Rathpith Globe is WRONG for this build. That's the low-life Inquisitor's specifically; a Hierophant wants high life AND high mana, not low-life energy shield. If a guide suggests Rathpith for Hierophant, it is cross-wired from the Inquisitor variant — ignore it.
  • ! Archmage Support drains your mana hard under Spell Echo Support + fast casting. Inspiration Support (mana cost reduction) is near-mandatory from Act 6 onward, and a mana flask with "instant recovery on low mana" suffix keeps you topped up during boss fights. If your mana pool dips below the cast cost, Spark of the Nova stops casting entirely — this is the most common "why isn't my skill working" bug for new Archmage players.
  • ! Greater Volley is a 3.28 Mirage Exceptional Support that replaced Greater Multiple Projectiles (GMP no longer exists). It is tradable, not a quest reward — budget around 1 divine for a leveled copy during league start week one, dropping to a few chaos by week two. The 4-link and 6-link both work fine without it.

Early Mapping L70–84

What to work on next
  1. Pick up Arcane Blessing as the fourth ascendancy — adds aura effect, which compounds with every reserved aura and Archmage Support's damage scaling
  2. Swap rare boots to Rainbowstride for res + spell block + ES + move speed — 20% of the tier runs it and it stacks block with Rearguard nicely
  3. Replace Kitava's Thirst with a rare Lich's Circlet or Skin of the Lords Divine Shield variant once cluster jewels and the Pledge of Hands pivot are on the horizon — KT's cast speed debuff starts to hurt single-target at endgame

How this stage plays (mechanics, defences)
Mechanics

The L81 reference runs the canonical Widowhail + Rearguard shell. Widowhail is a Crude Bow with 234% increased bonuses gained from equipped quiver, and Rearguard is a unique Blunt Arrow Quiver providing 22% attack block, 13% spell block, +405 armour, +20% projectile damage. Widowhail multiplies every Rearguard line, so the caster gets effective 73% attack block and 51% spell block plus armour and projectile speed — normally impossible stats for a Templar running spells. This is the single most identifying feature of the archetype at this tier (94% ladder share for Widowhail, 91% for Rearguard).

The 6-link body armour carries Spark of the Nova + Pinpoint Support + Archmage Support + Spell Echo Support + Pierce Support. Archmage Support adds flat lightning damage based on mana spent per cast — at this tier that's ~40-80 added lightning per cast, scaling cleanly with max mana. Pinpoint Support cuts projectile count by 1 but adds more projectile damage — the ladder data shows 69% of early-mapping builds run it, which confirms the single-target focus works well with the nova pattern's overlapping. Kitava's Thirst helm is the sneaky secondary damage engine: 50% chance to trigger socketed spells when you spend 100+ mana, socketed with Enfeeble + Punishment + Conductivity + Sniper's Mark — Archmage's high mana cost means Kitava's Thirst triggers on nearly every cast, spamming curses as a free action.

Hierophant ascendancy at this tier is Divine Guidance + Conviction of Power + Sanctuary of Thought. Divine Guidance is the keystone of the archetype: 50% of max mana added as max ES + damage taken from mana first (after MoM), making mana a dual-pool stat. Sanctuary of Thought adds 1% more damage per 50 max mana (soft-capped around +100% more damage at deep mana stacks). Conviction of Power gives a permanent power charge + endurance charge, which is why the sheet shows 4 power + 4 endurance charges on a caster. Mind Over Matter and Elemental Overload anchor the tree — MoM for defence, EO for damage (+40% more elemental damage on crit-less scaling).

Defensive layers

3.5k life, 1.1k ES, EHP 68k — the EHP is much higher than raw HP+ES because mana mitigation is doing the heavy lifting. 73% attack block + 51% spell block from Widowhail+Rearguard, 35% physical damage reduction from Kitava's Thirst's armour + charges, resistances cleanly capped with +91% lightning overcap (aimed high for Wrath sustain). Life regen is 62/s (low — the build regens mana instead), mana regen is 457/s which fuels both Archmage casts and the MoM damage-absorption pool. Lavianga's Spirit mana flask (skills cost no mana during effect) is the safety valve for mana-overdraw moments. Pantheon is Brine King + Tukohama.

What it feels like

A steadier-feeling caster than the Inquisitor version. You're not low-life, so no Petrified Blood management, no Pain Attunement tightrope — the rhythm is more like a traditional high-life spell build where you cast, mana drains, mana refills from regen, cast again. Frostblink of Wintry Blast in the gloves handles movement (the transfigured variant spreads shock in front of you). Arcane Cloak on boots is the key defensive cooldown, consuming mana to grant ES proportional to mana spent — pop it before hard hits and the mana pool becomes a burst shield. Sigil of Power lays a damage zone under you for boss fights. Frost Shield absorbs hits. The Widowhail+Rearguard block rate means fast pack attacks are heavily mitigated by default. Boss rotations are slower than Inquisitor (no resist ignore), but effective HP is dramatically higher.

Endgame L85–94

What to work on next
  1. The L94 reference keeps Widowhail on weapon 1 but swaps Rearguard for a rare Feathered Arrow Quiver with Projectiles Pierce 2 additional targets + +39% crit multi + +106 life + chaos res + life regen — Widowhail's quiver-multiplier is now scaling rare mods instead of Rearguard's block, trading the defensive shell for offensive density. Helmet becomes Ravenous Passion (+9 rage after spending 200 mana, Rage grants spell damage instead of attack damage) — rage stacks with Archmage and Sanctuary of Thought for a third multiplier on the mana-stacked damage. Marylene's Fallacy amulet adds +296% crit multi at the cost of 54% less crit chance, which pairs with tree crit chance nodes and the Increased Critical Strikes Support the aspirational later runs. Screams of the Desiccated belt gives +44% chaos res + diamond/replenishing shrine buffs while affected by no flasks, which is why the flask setup is three Divine Life Flasks (on-use instead of magic utility).
  2. Plan the endgame-to-aspirational pivot now: Pledge of Hands Judgement Staff is the aspirational weapon, and it carries Greater Spell Echo Support built in + 155% spell damage + 96% max mana. Once you can afford it the Widowhail shell goes away
  3. Pick up Forbidden Flame + Forbidden Flesh allocating Conviction of Power — huge charge-scaling for both offence and defence, 62% share at aspirational
  4. Swap to a rare Helical Ring with -2 prefix modifiers allowed + +50% increased suffix magnitudes (Viper Loop base) — the L94 reference's Doom Spiral / Viper Loop pair is the crit-multi + life + cast speed backbone

How this stage plays (mechanics, defences)
Mechanics

The weapon 1 6-link migrates here with Spark of the Nova + Unholy Trinity Support + Arcane Surge Support + Controlled Destruction Support + Greater Spell Echo Support + Archmage Support + Faster Projectiles Support — Greater Spell Echo (exceptional) replaces Spell Echo for a larger repeat-damage multiplier, and Unholy Trinity Support adds penetration for all three elements at once. 100% crit chance, 6.73x crit multi, 8.05 casts/sec, 8.5M DPS. Foulborn Kikazaru ring (+60% reduced effect of curses on you, +2 max mana per level) + Foulborn Kalisa's Grace gloves (socketed gems supported by L18 Faster Casting, 50% reduced mana cost after spending 800 mana) solve the Archmage mana-sustain problem — once you've spent 800 mana the next casts are half-price, which dramatically extends combat windows.

Foulborn The Blue Nightmare cobalt jewel converts 100% of lightning damage from fire-res-granting passives into chaos — a radius-scoped damage-type shift that lets the build sidestep lightning-resist boss phases. Militant Faith timeless jewel (+2% all-res per 10 devotion, 3% increased non-damaging ailment effect per 10 devotion) conquers a Templar radius into devotion scaling. 52% of endgame builds run Militant Faith. Unnatural Instinct (79% endgame share) turns allocated small passives into their neighbours' unallocated bonuses, a huge value-density trick. Stormshroud (modifiers to avoid shock apply to all elemental ailments) makes the 59% avoid shock boot roll translate to 59% avoid all ailments.

Ascendancy adds Arcane Blessing for more aura effect, and Ritual of Awakening (implicit via the endgame ascendancy fill) grants cast speed and mana regen scaling. Interestingly, the ladder shows Inner Conviction (transformed from Minion Instability) at 45% endgame share and a hefty Mind Over Matter share at 88% — this build is often running phantasm minions as a secondary damage source through Minion Instability's corpse-explosion loop, which isn't obvious from the skill gem name.

Defensive layers

2.8k life, 2.9k ES — which are unimpressive until you layer the mana pool. EHP 36k on the raw sheet but 104.5k median EHP at this tier when the full mana-damage-taken-first stack is counted. 98% spell suppression with 43% effect (near-max suppress pillar), 19% physical damage reduction from charges and evasion rolls. Chaos resist +61% via Screams of the Desiccated belt + The Blue Nightmare's lightning-to-chaos conversion as a sort of proactive chaos mitigation. Fire/cold/lightning 75% capped with 35%/37%/7% overcap. Arcane Cloak on the helm (linked with Automation, More Duration Support, Convocation) is the major defensive cooldown — it burns mana to give ES, and at endgame mana the ES burst can exceed 8k instantly. The fourth boot socket runs Vaal Grace for emergency suppress+dodge. Torment Track Phantom Boots carry 100% evasion+ES, 59% avoid shock, and 35% move speed.

What it feels like

Faster and tighter than early mapping. Spell Echo + Greater Spell Echo puts the effective cast rate into the double-digits, and with 100% crit chance every nova pushes 6.73x crit multi. Whirling Blades doesn't work on a staff setup, so movement stays on Frostblink of Wintry Blast. Raise Spectre + Meat Shield Support + Companionship Support + Minion Life Support in the chest runs a tanky minion frontline — combined with Sigil of Power setting damage zones, boss fights become stand-back-and-cast while the spectres eat telegraphs. Arcane Cloak is the reactive panic button. Eternal Blessing Support in the weapon lets Zealotry run on mana-reservation-zero, freeing mana pool for Archmage scaling. Pack clear is a nova-ring-instantly-deletes-the-screen pattern, single target is stand-and-hold, dodge telegraphs via boot Vaal Grace.

Aspirational L95–100

What to work on next
  1. The L100 reference commits fully to the Archmage MoM identity and swaps the Widowhail shell for Pledge of Hands staff (socketed gems supported by L1 Greater Spell Echo, 155% spell damage, 96% max mana). Helmet is Memory Vault Praetor Crown (90% socketed cost multiplier, +191 max mana, 20% reduced aura reservation efficiency, 1% armour per 50 reserved mana) — the Mageblood-era Hierophant helm. Belt is Mageblood. Chaos Inoculation + Glancing Blows + Divine Shield + Zealot's Oath is the aspirational keystone stack, converting the build into a CI + life-regen-as-ES-regen + 75% double block template. The Widowhail+Rearguard identity is gone; the Archmage mana-stack identity remains and gets amplified.

How this stage plays (mechanics, defences)
Mechanics

Pledge of Hands's 96% max mana roll combines with Memory Vault's +191 max mana and Whispers of Infinity's skills-cost-ES-instead-of-mana implicit — wait, Whispers here reverses that mana-ES routing relative to the endgame tier, but on CI it's fine because ES is effectively the whole pool. Healthy Mind Cobalt jewel (20% increased max mana, life-in-radius transforms to mana at 200%) is the key compounding trick — it turns every life-granting tree passive near it into a 2x-effect mana node. Stat sheet: 725 intelligence, 13.2k ES, and the Hierophant's 50% mana-to-ES conversion + Archmage Support's mana-to-flat-lightning-damage routing means every mana roll scales both pools.

The weapon 1 6-link now runs Spark of the Nova + Frostmage Support (exceptional cold-converter) + Arcane Surge Support + Increased Critical Strikes Support + Increased Critical Damage Support + Faster Projectiles Support — the Frostmage pivot converts a chunk of lightning into cold, which is why the amulet Whispers of Infinity and the rare Topaz Flask support cold/lightning balance, and Sublime Vision is absent (reference runs standard aura stack: Haste + Zealotry + Discipline + Enlighten Support in the helm). Sheet DPS 2.57M is lower than the endgame reference (8.48M) on paper because the aspirational build traded raw DPS for EHP 109k + 85% max resistances + 13k ES. Median DPS at this tier is 2.9M, confirming the sheet-number drop isn't a weakness — it's the meta trading damage for tank.

Ascendancy is the full Divine Guidance + Conviction of Power + Sanctuary of Thought + Arcane Blessing stack. Militant Faith and Healthy Mind timeless/uniques conquer tree radii. Stormshroud keeps the ailment-avoid pillar. Arcanist Brand + Sniper's Mark + Frostbite + Frost Bomb + Frost Shield in the chest run a Brand-delivery curse stack that compounds on bosses.

Defensive layers

EHP 109k, 13.2k ES, 85% max all resistances (lifted by Rune Salvation chest's +1% all max resistances + Divine Shield + Zealot's Oath), 72% physical damage reduction through 12.9k armour + Memory Vault's armour-per-reserved-mana line + 4 endurance charges, and 75% attack block + 58% spell block from Glancing Blows and staff implicit. Zealot's Oath routes the life regen tree scaling into ES instead — all the tree life-regen nodes become ES regen, which is why the sheet shows 1.6k/s ES regen despite CI. Chaos resist -60% is the pure CI cost; the build's defensive plan is that chaos damage bypasses ES but the giant ES pool + regen rate + 85% max all-res absorption + flask uptime means incoming chaos is a survivable chip rather than a one-shot. Mageblood runs Wine of the Prophet (Gold Flask) + Topaz + Ruby + Sapphire + Silver for permanent crit/res/ailment-avoid/stun-avoid buffs. Pantheon is Lunaris + Abberath.

What it feels like

The apex Hierophant power fantasy. Pledge of Hands's built-in Greater Spell Echo Support means every cast is a triple-repeat by default; stacking the explicit Greater Spell Echo + exceptional repeats on top pushes effective cast rate into the 6.5 casts/sec × 3-repeat barrage zone. The 725 intelligence + full Archmage + Sanctuary mana-damage stack means each nova ring is an enormous sheet-damage burst, and with 13k ES under the mana-first routing the build can eat hits that would one-shot a Inquisitor low-life setup. Frostblink of Wintry Blast handles movement. Minion package (Animate Guardian, Meat Shield Support, Companionship Support, Minion Life Support in the gloves) tanks frontline telegraphs. Aura stack (Haste + Zealotry + Discipline + the two Vaal skills) runs through Enlighten Support. Movement speed at +95% with Haste-permanent + quicksilver via Mageblood. The rotation is walk forward → cast → nova detonates the screen. Pinnacle bosses fall to the combination of Arcanist Brand-triggered curses + Frost Bomb cold-exposure + Sniper's Mark damage taken + raw Spark sheet damage.
